Reneil Wong, a Jamaican man in Massachusetts arrested for extortion and scamming the elderly

Reneil Wong, a 24 year old citizen of Jamaica, was arrested in Massachusetts and charged with extortion by threat of injury and two counts of larceny over $250 by false pretense.
It all started when Wong allegedly contacted the 76 year old woman, telling various tales. Such tales included needing cash for sick relatives and making promises of investments. The woman has said that she sent $500 dollars in cash, at the least, through the mail to Wong.

Wong had become aggressive and threatening her that he would go looking for her in North Carolina, where she lived, if the money was not sent. An alert postal employee heard about the victim's story after the alleged victim began calling the post office inquiring as to why her package of money was not delivered and got the attention of U.S. postal inspectors. This led to a discovery that packages sent to Wong were being tracked by others in Jamaica, and that Wong was transferring the funds electronically to Jamaica, after receiving the money.

Wong was released on $4,000 cash bail. After a not guilty plea, his passport was ordered to be turned over. Authorities anticipate more charges to be filed in this case. Investigators will work to determine how the alleged victim and Wong knew each other, or if they knew each other at all.
